Dr Stephen Covey

Just closed a fascinating webinar with Dr Stephen Covey - author of the internationally best-selling book 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People'. Did you know it has sold over 30 million copies worldwide? And that it was named #1 most influential business book of the 20th century? And that it was all achieved through word of mouth?

He's coming to London to speak at Central Hall Westminster on 14th October about his latest book 'The 8th Habit' - and I for one will be there. You can get tickets from here - look forward to seeing you there!

I thought is was 'In Search of Excellence' that was voted the best in the last century (I guess there are several polls!). I only mention it because I went to see Tom Peters last week and thought he was fab. Peter Cook was there too (along with his guitar for some reason).

While we're talking about books, how is your new one coming on?

Covey's 7 Habits, while a must-read in their day, have unfortunately not stood the test of time. In the hyperconnected world we live in priorities and demands on our time change on an hourly basis and different techniques are needed. I recommend you look at Getting Things Done by David Allen. You'll find it on Amazon!

You should have listened to the webinar... He was talking about his latest book 'The 8th Habit' which brings the ideas into 21st century collaborative structures...

Hearing his talk about the 7 Habits absolutely resonated, they are pillars of entrepreneurship and I might add the laws of the Universe:

Habit 1 - Be proactive, take absolute responsibility for everything in your life

Habit 2 - Have a personal Vision

Habit 3 - Prioritise - distinguish between what is 'urgent' and what is really 'important'

Habit 4 - Find the Win/Win - solutions which give you what they want as well as others what they want

Habit 5 - Mutual understanding - listening and understanding before expecting to be understood

Habit 6 - Co-operation with others to get things done

Habit 7 - Manage your motivation

By the way Mark, how many 30million+ selling books have you written lately? It's so easy to slag off others isn't it?

Give the man some RESPECT

Having been successful and then unsuccessful without reading any books i don't really know what to make of it.

What i have found though, is that American executives are head and shoulders about the Brits when it comes to strategic management and that material is certainly worth a look.

12manage.com is a great site for that.

I don't think you can argue with the habits as listed to be honest. Like all good ideas they tend to survive the test of time.

Yea, Your right Mr C.
Mr Covey's work HAS stood the test of time and in the big leagues.

Just because something is old doesn't mean the prinicples are not sound and still relevant to today.

Bit info overloaded right now i guess. Reader apathy here. lol
