Enterprise Academy

Brilliant news that Peter Jones has pioneered a new Enterprise Academy backed by Gordon Brown, which will open in 2009.

The UK is on a journey here, and actually if we want to change the culture in my view it needs to start at the beginning of a child's education (and by that I mean from babyhood onwards), and must encompass giving our children the 'positive thinking' tools which foster self-belief, determination and drive. In my experience, if an entrepreneur has these three qualities embedded in their psyche, they don't actually need anything else.

I couldn't agree more, we need to change our education system radically in order to create a more enterprising society.

The trouble is that's a long term fix and not a short term measure that'll make the current government look good.

I'd say that, whilst self confidence etc. are vital, confidence without competence can be a dangerous mixture?

Entrepreneurs stick to business and actors stick to TV....

Otherwise we get false and fake entrepreneurs giving the wrong message and angry actors ....

Watching Peter in Tycoon made me cringe ....

And if Peter wants a Sir in front of his name, try Labour, i beleive you can even get a Lord title half price now Tony has gone ...

Those of you who read the original Blog will see I have removed the comments about Peter - I've since spoken to him on the phone about the incidents decribed, am assured that his motives are honourable and so have retracted the comments made.

He must be very persuasive for that to have happened, Rachel. I think this a common problem with the celebrity persona. No one really trusts the motives of those who don the celebrity hat.

Me, i'd sooner listen to George Galloway kicking some American senator bottom - any day!

Confidence and self belief underpin everything we do. If you don't have these it becomes impossible to put what competence you do have to good use.

In my opinion, self belief comes first.

What our (regular) school system lacks in the UK is the encouragement of creative thought. Entrepreneurship is not encouraged and we are not taught the fundamentals about how we shape our own lives. Rather we are encouraged to pigeon hole ourselves.

I say good luck to Peter. Let's just hope he steers clear of too much media attention!
